Advanced Examples Working Group
Purpose
The Advanced Examples illustrate realistic applications of GEANT4
in typical experimental enviroments. They are developed in collaboration
with user groups expert in the corresponding experimental domain.
The code of the developed examples can be
dowloaded
together with the Geant4 toolkit in the directory
geant4/examples/advanced.

Examples List and responsibles
Workplan for 2009
- We expect the participation of two new members; They should contribute to the Medical Linac and Hadrontherapy examples
- All the examples in the directory will be mantained
- Change in design and features of the Medical Linac example expecially regarding performance;
- Harontherapy will be changed to work also in a "pencil beam" configuration and in a "general" configuration for radiotherapy;
- DICOM should be definitively introduced in Medical Linac and Hadrontherapy;
- A new example will be inserted: GammaKnife; it will simulate a special kind of radiotherapy modality called "Gamma Knife";
Workplan for 2010
- The migration to the new Lowenergy and Standard physics was completed but tests and validation have to be carried out.
- The Physics Lists usage must be shown for any example and at least one example per category (medical, high energy, underground, radioprotection, nuclear physics) must be updated. At moment less then one half of the examples show the Physics Lists use.
- The possibility to use clinical DICOM images will be inserted in Hadrontherapy to show a 'real case treatment' for proton therapy
- Three examples should be added: *GammaKnife*: simulation of a real 'radiosurgery' apparatus. WILL BE INSERTED IN APRIL 2010;
*IORT*: simulation of a real apparatus for Intra Operative Radio Therapy. WILL BE INSERTED IN OCTOBER 2010;
*Cexmc*: *Charge exchange Monte Carlo* based. NOT SCHEDULED

The main aim of this example is to find the best geometry of the experimental set-up and calculate its acceptances for specific physical interaction. Values of set-up acceptance are used to calculate differential cross sections of the process.
Up to now the program was used to calculate the set-up acceptance in charge exchange hadronic processes (like pi-p --> pi0 n)
- Three examples (composite_calorimeter, lAr_calorimeter and Rich) were maintained up to now by A.Ribon that leaved the Group. We should find a responsible or delete the examples
- The presence of the examples inside the Geant4 system testing should be verified and improved
